All new water customers must fill out a water and sewer contract for water service.  If you are a renter, you are required to pay a $75.00 security deposit for water and $70.00 for sewer and if there is no water at the home you will have to pay an additional $25.00 installation charge.  The $75.00 deposit is refundable when the customer moves and pays the final bill. Water bills are mailed on a monthly basis and include water charges and garbage charges.  You will also receive a separate bill from the Sanitary Board of Bluefield West Virginia for sewer based on water consumption.  The customer has 28 days from the bill date to pay the water bill, on the 29th day the customer will be penalized 5% and sent a disconnect notice.  The customer will have 10 days from the date of the notice to pay the water bill, on the eleventh day the water service is disconnected and the total bill plus a $25.00 fee is required to reconnect service.

Real Estate and Personal Property taxes will be due on December 5th.  

The following is some very general information about the Town’s program of real estate tax exemptions for qualified homeowner for their residence up to one acre.
The existing eligibility qualifications, in general, include 65 years or older, application made prior to April 1 of the year for which exemption is requested; annual combined income of owner and owner’s spouse and relatives living in the dwelling cannot exceed $25,000 and the combined net worth of the owner and owner’s spouse does not exceed $75,000.
Excluded from “Combined Income” is the first $4,000 of income per relative living in the dwelling; excluded from the “Net Worth” is the assessed value of the dwelling and one acre. If you have any questions or would like to apply, please contact the Treasurer’s Office at (276) 322-4646 ext. 3003.

Business License Tax and Tax Structure            
Any individual, partnership or corporation operating from a definite place of business located in the Town of Bluefield, VA must obtain a business license from the Treasurer’s Office.  The tax is based on the gross sales from the previous year.
